An accused killer has been bashed by a group of inmates behind bars at Lotus Glen Correctional Facility.
Matthew Ross White, 25, was taken to Mareeba Hospital in far north Queensland, after he was bashed on Tuesday afternoon,Cairns Post reported.
White has been charged with the murder of Donna Louise Steel, 42, whose wrapped body was discovered in Endeavour River in Cooktown in August, 2017.
He was also charged with misconduct with a corpse by interfering, and enter dwelling with intent.
Police allege White ambushed the mother-of-two in her own home before killing her and dumping her body in the creek.
The father-of-one was arrested at his Cairns home a week after police offered a $250,000 reward for information regarding the alleged murder.
The prison attack happened just days after White appeared at Cairns Magistrates Court on Saturday, where he was remanded in custody until May.
The 25-year-old is believed to be in a serious but stable condition at Mareeba Hospital on Wednesday.
