She plays an overwhelmed mother of three in the new dramatic comedy Tully.
But Charlize Theron looked anything but as she arrived for the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Wednesday night.
The stunning star, who’s 42, was the definition of elegant in a full-length black gown with large colorful butterflies on the front and back.
The South African beauty wore her signature blonde hair piled up into a messy bun and dangled an impressive pair of gold chandelier earrings from her ears.
Her dress had a round neckline and three-quarter sleeves.
The bodice was cinched at the waist with the skirt falling to the floor in loose pleats.
There was no sign of the 50 pound weight gain she endured in order to bring her character to life on the big screen.
She told Entertainment Tonight that eating lots of processed food and sugar had made her really depressed as she piled on extra pounds.
‘I wanted to feel what this woman felt and I think that was a way for me to get closer to her and get into that mindset,’ the Oscar-winning actress explained.
When it came to losing the weight again, it was ‘hell’, she said.
Charlize revealed it had taken a year and a half to return to her normal size and at times, she was fearful she wouldn’t be able to reach her goal weight again.
