Downton Abbey’s Christmas 2015 series finale wrapped up with the bombshell that Lady Mary Crawley was pregnant with her second husband Harry Talbot’s child.
And fans will be overjoyed to get a glimpse of Michelle Dockery and Matthew Goode sharing their first romantic moment of the movie as they get into character.
In new movie stills, the on-screen couple were the picture of happiness as they can’t tear their eyes away from each other during a heart-warming filming sequence.
Michelle slipped back into the role of Mary with ease in a 1920s flapper dress which she paired with a statement tiara worn in her cropped brunette locks.
Matthew was every inch the devoted husband Henry as he took the lead in the dance and dressed for his part in a smart jacket as well as white tails.
Despite marrying character Lady Mary on-screen in the finale, the actor did reveal he will only be ‘popping in’ to the movie because of conflicting work commitments.
The film is expected to pick up right where the series came to an end on New Year’s Eve in 1925 when the Downton residents and staff were filled with utter joy.
As Lady Mary’s baby bump has yet to be seen on set or in movie stills, it suggests the movie could take off from the very moment the series wrapped up.
Or indeed, the period film could capture the precious moments more than nine months later after the mother-to-be has given birth to her child.
