Linda Nolan: On the best way to see the sites, ‘I adore bus tours’

LINDA NOLAN, 59, rose to fame alongside her sisters as a member of The Nolans in 1974. Selling 25 million records worldwide, the band enjoyed seven Top 20 UK hits. Linda went on to star in the West End musical Blood Brothers and was a contestant on Celebrity Big Brother. She lives in Blackpool.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY? Renewing my wedding vows with my late husband Brian in Turkey in 2005. He hired a traditional yacht and we spent the day sailing around Ölüdeniz’s coastline. We swam and drank champagne while the crew cooked lunch. Brian had festooned the boat with rose petals and our wedding photographs. My sister Coleen sang as we renewed our vows while her husband Ray played the guitar. AND YOUR WORST?Hawaii. We had lots of hanging around for our flight and the aeroplane food was terrible. We arrived 22 hours later to be told the tour operator was upgrading us to a better hotel – but it was horrible. We managed to swap back but it rained a lot. WHAT SOUVENIR DO YOU CHERISH MOST? The Nolans supported Frank Sinatra on his 1975 European tour and when it finished he gave us a gold key ring with a medallion inscribed, “Love and peace from Frank Sinatra”. It’s a souvenir from a fairy-tale time.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY? If I’m going on a beach break then I’m a full-on sun worshipper so I’ll be up early for breakfast and lying by the pool at 8.30am. If it’s a city break I adore bus tours. You can’t beat jumping off at the Eiffel Tower, stumbling across a bistro and jumping back on board again. BEST BOOK? I usually read autobiographies. Billy Connolly’s and Julian Clary’s made me laugh out loud. I also devoured Robert James’s The Bridges Of Madison County. WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?Rome. I went in 2011 with my late sister Bernie and we did a whistle-stop tour. On the last night we were tipsy and Bernie stood on our balcony and sang the theme tune from The Godfather in Italian. People below were shouting, “Bravo!” I’d like to go back and throw coins in the Trevi Fountain and marvel at the Colosseum.
