Lower East Side’s Stanton Social eatery closing New Year’s Eve

After 15 years, the Stanton Social — a celebrity favorite that changed the dining scene on the Lower East Side — is closing and looking to relocate New Year’s Eve when its lease expires.

The Downtown eatery — which helped launch the shared-plates, tapas-style communal-dining trend — was a favorite late-night spot for Matt Damon, Adrian Grenier and Sofia Vergara, and it’s where Amy Schumer worked as a bartender as she was launching her career.

“It’s a bittersweet moment. This is the restaurant that put me on the map,” said Chris Santos, who, together with his Tao Group partners, will be looking for a bigger space to reopen in the neighborhood.

Santos created many of the famed dishes in his partner’s kitchen before the restaurant opened.

“I’d spend hours grocery shopping, and then cooking until 1 or 2 a.m.,” Santos told The Post.

“We’d have a lot of bottles of wine open, and we’d have to write down our ideas to make sure we’d remember them in the morning!” he added.

Santos also has Beauty & Essex nearby, with sister locations in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, as well as Vandal, on the Bowery near Spring Street.

Signature dishes, like French onion soup dumplings, will migrate temporarily to other Santos eateries.
