Netflix has provided an official premiere date for “Narcos” Season 2: September 2nd at 12:01 a.m. The Pablo Escobar crime drama will start streaming in all Netflix territories.
The entertainment company has also released the premiere date announcement along with a brief teaser video.
On the camera of the teaser, in which Escobar is staring menacingly, three dates flash across the screen: Escobar’s birthday Dec. 1, 1949; the day Escobar died Dec. 2, 1993 and the release date of the new season, Sept. 2, 2016.
The series follows the real-life events of infamous drug kingpins during the 80s and purposely Escobar (Wagner Moura).
It also chronicles the corroborative efforts of law enforcement that led to a brutal and bloody conflict. It further goes into details by touching on conflicting forces (politics, justice, military, police and civilians). This clash was created by efforts to control one of the world’s most valuable commodities, cocaine.
The stars Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal will take the role of real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña respectively in the series; they will star alongside Moura. The second season of “Narcos” is produced by Gaumont International Television for Netflix. The executive producers of the series will be José Padilha and Eric Newman.
Adam Fierro would have retained the role as an executive producer of “Narcos” Season 2 but he exited back in December. However, the former “The Walking Dead” consulting producer had been billed as the new showrunner for his services.
