“Tesla was pushing the Envelope with its driver assistance systems”: Amnon Shashua, Chairman of Mobileye

These days the war of words between Tesla motors and parts supplier Mobileye continues to dominate the news headlines as both broke their partnership in late July.

Amnon Shashua, Chairman of Mobileye quoted in the press conference that Tesla was “Pushing the Envelope” with its driver assistance systems and said the partnership ended because Mobileye had concerns about Autopilot’s safety. In a Response Tesla Motors said its former camera supplier Mobileye disparaged the safety of Tesla assisted driving technology after learning the carmaker was developing its own vision system.

Mobileye sold Tesla important component for its semiautonomous Autopilot system. It supplied Tesla its EyeQ3 Chip, which enables all driver to see their surroundings and respond accordingly. But their break up came shortly after news that a Tesla Model S driver was killed in a crash in Florida this spring while using Autopilot.
